Charity Fund Raising
The President's Charity for 2010/11 is The Teenage Cancer Trust
Following previous achievements and great success with charity fund raising efforts, SAIF are now promoting the following and ask for your help
Nationally we consume around 180 million pints of milk a week, of which at least two thirds are sold in plastic bottles. The plastic milk bottles are recycled by most local authorities but tops are not. The tops are granulated which allows the plastic to be re-used. The granules go towards making new products such as; car parts, buckets, wheelie bins, kitchen utensils, plastic tubes, plastic garden furniture, plastic toys and black bin bags.
SAIF are in contact with a company who are willing to pay for milk bottle tops and we are therefore asking for your support in saving these tops. So join SAIF and save your tops now. We will be happy to receive them from you at any of the Regional Meetings around the country, at Independents Day in June, sent to SBC or if you contact us we may be able to arrange collection.
Milk Bottle Tops;
Your plastic milk bottle tops - green, blue and red must be clean and free of all stickers and tabs from the inside of the lid as these materials can contaminate the load. This is very important.
Other Lids - If you want to collect other lids you must ensure that they display the recycling sign (the triangle) and either the number 2 (02), or the number 4 (04). This signifies the kind of plastic they are made from. These details will be displayed on the inside of the lid. If they do not display these details they cannot be recycled through this scheme.
Used Stamps:
Please don’t forget that SAIF are still saving used stamps. Last year we donated £100 to charity from just saving used stamps. So please stop and think when you open a letter – cut the stamp off (leaving approx 1” either side of the stamp) and save.
Mobile phones:
How many of you have old mobile phones collecting dust or just sitting in a drawer. There are many companies out there who pay ££’s for these old phones for recycling. If you would like to donate your old mobile phone, please remove the sim card, and send to SAIF where we will happily arrange for exchange for cash which will go to charity.
Stories, Anecdotes, Incidents:
We are collating stories and poems for a book which we can print and sell for charity.
So do you have any unusual events that have happened during your years as being a funeral director that you wish to share with others? Anything, (printable of course) and names can be changed to protect the innocent. Also poems that you may have come across or even written yourself will be very welcome.
SAIF Selling:
Now this really is a good initiative as you can also gain - basically it’s ebay for funeral directors. How many of you have items of clothing that no longer fit or perhaps equipment that you really don’t need. Now you can sell these items through SAIF Selling. Just send the details to SAIF and we will display in both SAIFInsight and on our website. You contact the buyer/seller direct and just make a donation from your sales to SAIF for Charity. So sort out that wardrobe now, clear out your garage, give the stock room a tidy and see what you can sell on. You will be amazed at how good you feel having had a tidy up and benefiting at the same time as well as donating something to charity.
Publicity Material:
To assist in promoting your participation in SAIF's 2010 Charity Initiative, you can download our posters for displaying on your premises.
