Funeral Directors

Burials | Coroners | Cremations | Doctors | Exhumation | Funeral directors | Help with funeral expenses from the DSS | Professional Associations | Registration | Repatriation to England or Wales | Repatriation to a foreign country | What to do initially after a death

The funeral director chosen is entirely up to the individual. Individuals are perfectly entitled to speak to a number of funeral directors and make up their own mind. The funeral director should be contacted immediately if the deceased is at home at the time of death so that they can be moved to a private chapel of rest. Apart from this the funeral director can be contacted when the family feel ready to start making arrangements.

Funeral Directors will co-ordinate all the parties involved, obtain the necessary documentation and pay the disbursements on your behalf. Disbursements are any set fee that will have to be paid before the funeral such as cemetery/cremation charges or doctors fees. These will be paid on your behalf by the funeral director who will then charge for these in the final invoice for the funeral however they will be clearly marked as being 'disbursements'. Funeral Directors are also available for advice on any number of issues from costing of flowers and timing. They will also move the deceased to their private chapel of rest and take care of them before the funeral including carrying out any necessary hygienic treatment.
