SAIF Community

Many independent funeral directors have been in their local communities as businesses for generations. In many cases the SAIF member is the oldest business in the town or village.

As a ‘pillar’ of the community many independents put a great deal back into the community through voluntary work and support or financial sponsorship of local projects and people. We feel that independent, family owned funeral directing firms are much more likely to understand the needs and wants of their communities rather than the larger groups of funeral directors who always seem to focus on the business aspect of what they do. Each succeeding generation in a family owned firm grows up with corresponding generations of other families in the community.

SAIF Community is all about recognising the contributions that independent funeral directors make to their communities. This support can take many different forms. It can be totally community focused work unrelated to funeral service or it can be specific help, support or training offered to local people and groups who want to understand the work that funeral service does better.

‘Still Life’ was launched as an integral part of SAIF Community. A bright, informative, easy to read magazine for members of the public seeking more information about death, bereavement and the part that independent funeral directors play in the process. Condensed versions of the magazine may be downloaded below or the eight page printed copies may be purchased from SAIF Business Centre.

If you are a funeral director reading this, please tell us about the work you do in the community and don’t be afraid to tell the World about what you do. If you are a member of the public and want to tell us about anything that you feel is relevant to the work we are doing please contact us through the contact page of this website.
