Independents Day was held in WALES

Well attended and will now be an annual event!

SAIF held its first ever Welsh Independents Day - open to all Welsh Independent Funeral Directors - at the Aberavon Beach Hotel on the 5 th June 2004. The event was kindly sponsored by Lyn Oakes.

A very healthy attendance at a superb venue turned up both on the evening of the Friday and the Saturday itself to hear a number of speakers discussing issues highly important to Independents in Wales together with up to date information about the valuable role SAIF is playing.

Alun Tucker SAIF's first National President from Wales welcomed everyone to the day and said how proud and pleased he was that SAIF were holding a major event there.

The key note speaker was John Walters: the Emergency Planning Officer for Ceredigion County Council who presented on "planning for mass fatalities". He praised SAIF for their initiative in setting up an emergency planning committee to assist in co-operation between emergency planning officers and independent funeral directors.

Suzanne Mainwaring of The Noah's Ark Appeal - This year's President's Charity - gave an uplifting presentation on their work - the building and equipping of the first dedicated Children's Hospital in Wales.

The rest of the day was built around presentations on small business and funeral related matters. Some very important information, especially in respect of some recent employment law changes was imparted to the delegates. Due to the success of this first major Welsh event it has been agreed to make it an annual event in the future.
