Some Facts and Figures on Service Corporation International (SCI)

SCI is the world's largest funeral service provider, although its share price was $40 per share and in recent times has seen it crumble to under $7 per share. SCI has 3,300 affiliated funeral homes and cemeteries worldwide. In the UK SCI owns

Over 750 outlets across the UK and Northern Ireland

17 Cemeteries
SCI has direct links with the following prep-payment funeral plans:
The Age Concern Funeral Plan (SCI owns 75% of the company that runs the plan)
The Dignity Plan (wholly owned by a subsidiary of SCI)
The Sun Life Over 50's plan
Chosen Heritage Funeral Plan (wholly owned by a subsidiary of SCI)

People who take out these plans were and in most cases still are obliged to use the services of a funeral home owned by SCI, but this fact was not always made clear before the purchase took place. However, the plan holder can cash in their plan should they chose. The plan holder could purchase another plan, such as Golden Charter Funeral Plan, that gives complete freedom of choice. Or cash in the plan at the time of need to appoint the services of their preferred funeral director.
